Get to know your Regional Outreach Manager!

YSC Regional Outreach Managers are responsible for ensuring all of YSC’s programs and resources get to the young women affected by breast cancer who need them. They support our State Leaders, Face 2 Face networks, RISE, online video support groups, discussion boards, private Facebook group, healthcare provider outreach and more. The Regional Outreach Managers will all be at YSC Summit 2017 and look forward to meeting you there.

YSC West Region

How long have you worked at YSC?
MS:
It will be 5 years this August!

Why are you passionate about working at YSC?
MS:
Because YSC was there for me in my time of need.  I’ve gone through breast cancer twice under age 40, and found YSC after my 2nd diagnosis here in Central Ohio.  The support I received was invaluable and it’s been an honor to have the opportunity to give back and support YSC’s mission.

When you aren’t working, what is your idea of a perfect day?
MS:
A perfect day would definitely start out with enjoying a great cup of coffee and a good book, throw in a couple sets of tennis (all of this hopefully somewhere sunny, warm and near a beach!), topped off with some lovely wine and dinner with my family.

When you think of the west region, what comes to mind?
MS:
Diversity! In many ways...culturally, ethnically, geographically, politically and socially. A region of outstanding medical centers, health care providers and pharma/technology.  And always highly motivated and enthusiastic volunteers who are willing to go above and beyond to support young women in need.

What is one area in the west region you’ve never traveled before and would love to visit?
MS:
I’m excited to head to Oakland/San Fran for the Summit, it’s my first time!  I’ve also never been up north- Wyoming or Montana would be awesome.  Oh and Hawaii would also not be hardship at all.☺

YSC Regional Outreach Manager East

How long have you worked at YSC?
GC:
18 months.

Why are you passionate about working at YSC?
GC:
I was diagnosed with breast cancer aged 31. At the time I was living in London and made the move to NYC two years after treatment. One of the first things I did was look up ways to get connected with other young women who would understand. YSC was instrumental in that, and since I’ve been trying to extend the same support to our constituents.

When you aren’t working, what is your idea of a perfect day?
GC:
A cycle ride around Prospect Park in Brooklyn. Since taking part in Tour De Pink East last year, cycling has become a passion!

When you think of the east region, what comes to mind?
GC:
Amazing, smart, professional women at the peak of their career and life. It’s a great place to get connected, not just for breast cancer survivors, but for people wanting to broaden their knowledge and meet all sorts of people.

What is one area in the east region you’ve never traveled before and would love to visit?
GC:

I would love to visit Maine. I’ve heard it’s absolutely beautiful and has the best seafood!

YSC Regional Outreach Manager Central

How long have you worked at YSC?
CH:
I have worked at YSC for 2 years, and before that I interned at YSC for one year.

Why are you passionate about working at YSC?
CH:
I love working at YSC because of the mission. Before I became an intern at YSC I had no idea young women can and do get breast cancer, and I had no idea what their unique set of needs were. It was a huge eye opener for me and I was amazed at the support YSC offered these women. As an Regional Outreach Manager I love working directly with young women affected by breast cancer. They are so inspiring and always want to give back and help others!

When you aren’t working, what is your idea of a perfect day?
CH:
My idea of a perfect day would be a warm sunny day at the beach under a palm tree, eating an unlimited supply of ice cream.

When you think of the east region, what comes to mind?
CH:
My home! I currently live in the South, but I grew up in the Midwest (I am from Green Bay, WI). This region is home to me and I am lucky to get to cover it in my work at YSC.

What is one area in the central region you’ve never traveled before and would love to visit?
CH:
I have a goal to visit all 50 states. I still have a few left. The only state in the central region that I have never visited is North Dakota.
