Meet Layshandria

Layshandria Harvin is the Manager of Programming and Events at YSC.

Layshandria was diagnosed with TNBC in March 2017 at the age of 34 and metastatic in 2020. She observed very few young people in her cancer community and was connected with YSC and other local breast cancer non-profit organizations. Prior to joining the staff at YSC, Layshandria worked as a Patient Navigator with the Breast Cancer Resource Center (BCRC). There her focus was on supporting those diagnosed 45 years and younger and creating Pink Table Talk, BCRC’s group for Black women. Prior to entering the nonprofit world, Layshandria was a pediatric nurse.

Layshandria received a BSN at the University of North Texas and BA in Communications at Concordia University of Austin. She is a Certified Community Health Worker through the Texas Department of State Health Services. She is also serving as Vice President and President Protem for Team Survivor Austin, an organization geared toward inspiring people mentally and physically to regain normal lives during and after cancer treatment.

Layshandria lives in Austin, TX, with her husband, Greg, 4 children, and Luna, her bernedoodle. She enjoys baking, is an avid reader, and is an audiobook narrator.
