Eric Winer - Game Changer

What inspires you in your work to support, empower or educate young women affected by breast cancer?
There are many misconceptions about breast cancer in young women. I am inspired to correct those misconceptions and to help young women get the best possible treatment and achieve the very best outcomes. Ideally, we want women to be able to undergo treatment and then live a life that is free from side effects. We need to work to make sure that the therapies are tolerated as well as possible.

What about your work for young women affected by breast cancer makes you most proud?
I am proud to be able to help young women lead long and full lives. I am proud of my relationships with my patients and of the research that I have done that helps me and others take better care of young women.

What are your hopes for the future, with regard to YSC and young breast cancer survivors?
I look forward to a time when no woman dies of breast cancer and no one has intolerable side effects from treatment.

What is your message for YSC on its 20th anniversary?
Keep up the great work. Please continue to shine a bright light on the problem of breast cancer in young women.

Anything else you'd like to share?
It takes a village to treat breast cancer.

About YSC and Game Changers
Young Survival Coalition was founded in 1998 by young women diagnosed with breast cancer under age 35.

YSC is made up of people: survivors, co-survivors, volunteers, donors, healthcare providers. Our strength comes from our community. So in our 20th year, we will honor our roots — the people who have helped build YSC into what it is today — and also look forward, recognizing those in our community who are changing the future of breast cancer in young women.

We are highlighting these individuals as Game Changers throughout 2018 and sharing their stories with the world to thank them for their contributions to our community.
