We are honored to present Dr. Nikhil Wagle and Dr. Connie Painter as YSC Game Changers for the Metastatic Breast Cancer Project.
Dr. Nikhil Wagle and Dr. Corrie Painter started the Metastatic Breast Cancer Project program (MBC) in partnership with the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard. This revolutionary method of research asked MBC patients to send their specimens and records for storage and analysis. This data can then be used by any researchers in need of metastatic breast cancer data.
They released their first data set last fall, and YSC has been proud to be an advocacy partner since near the beginning of this research initiative. Drs. Wagle and Painter also recognize the unique issues of young women with metastatic breast cancer and will be collecting and performing data analysis on this subpopulation. Already, their data set contains a significant proportion of young women.
This month, the MBC Project announced their newest initiative, Count Me In, a non-profit umbrella organization that "aims at making it possible for cancer patients anywhere in the United States and Canada to be partners in cancer research." Young Survival Coalition was founded in 1998 by young women diagnosed with breast cancer under age 35.
YSC is made up of people: survivors, co-survivors, volunteers, donors, healthcare providers. Our strength comes from our community. So in our 20th year, we will honor our roots — the people who have helped build YSC into what it is today — and also look forward, recognizing those in our community who are changing the future of breast cancer in young women.
We are highlighting these individuals as Game Changers throughout 2018 and sharing their stories with the world to thank them for their contributions to our community.
